Art and learning

Wolverhampton Art Gallery has permanent exhibits on two floors and a temporary exhibition space on the ground floor.

Our exciting programme of temporary exhibitions change regularly - see the Wolverhampton Arts and Museums website to find out about current and future exhibitions at the Gallery.

The permanent displays take visitors through 300 years of art from the Georgian period to the present day:

Victorian and Georgian Rooms: The Victorian room, with its collection of paintings, is often used by school groups to discuss narrative paintings.  The Georgian room is full of interactive stations that allow pupils to engage with the discoveries of the era.

Sensing Sculpture: Sensing Sculpture is a complete sensory experience.  Every artwork can be touched.  Children can explore artists' inspiration and materials and discover sculptures based on everything from natural forms to recycling, from portraits to abstract work.

Modern Art: Our extensive modern collection, as well as the best in contemporary and pop art,  form the basis for our new permanent displays in the new galleries in our newly opened extension.

Art work

In our Creation digital studio, students can create art works, produce animations, videos, documentaries, or manipulate images and photographs.  They can even learn simple ways to create interactive works for CD ROMS and Web pages.

Creation was developed in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton.
