Craftplay

Based on the Reggio Emilia approach, Craftplay offers inspired creative discovery workshops and Stay and Play sessions for local children and babies with their carers and educators, as well as training sessions for adults.

The Craftplay Room

The Craftplay room is full of exciting materials to stimulate the senses and encourage exploration and creativity in the very young.  There are a wealth of colours, textures, smells and sounds to activate the senses and specially commissioned interactive craft pieces by renowned makers.

Play Sessions

Craftplay creative play sessions allow children and babies to develop their own creativity by pursuing their individual areas of interest. Exploration is encouraged through the provision of a broad and continually evolving range of materials and sensory environments.

During each session staff observe, assess, and document the children's creative play and responses. Staff enable children to extend their investigations by providing verbal encouragement and additional materials relevant to their area of interest.

Noted observations, children's comments and photographic documentation, are an important part of the approach, and are used to help access, share and validate the children’s work as well as to inform future planning.
