African Caribbean Panel of Arts Ambassadors

A panel of local representatives from Wolverhampton's African Caribbean community was set up in 2002 to provide advice on race and cultural issues.

The African Caribbean Panel forms part of Birmingham Arts Marketing's Networking Project. This is a long-term project to develop Black and minority ethnic (BME) audiences for the arts. It aims to develop meaningful relationships between local BME communities and arts organisations.

Panel members represent a range of age and gender and come from various professional and religious backgrounds. Their experience and local knowledge has helped the Gallery to expand its audience development and marketing strategies to better cater for African Caribbean audiences.

Recent projects have looked at the culture of African Caribbean hair-care and styling in Wolverhampton, performances from the local Black Readers and Writers Group, and a Caribbean themed opening for our Christmas exhibitions.
