Free internet access
Free internet access is available to library members in all Wolverhampton libraries.
You can use a computer for up to three hours per day, but you'll need to book - the facilities are very popular.
What internet services does the library provide?
- Access to the world wide web
- Access to web-based e-mail accounts
- Newspapers and multimedia on cd-rom
- Microsoft Office applications including Word, Access, Excel and Powerpoint.
Why do we provide access to the internet?
Over the past few years more and more information is being made available via the internet, and in some cases, traditional book sources are being totally replaced with online databases. In order to maintain our role as a provider of informational, educational, recreational and cultural enrichment opportunities we need to embrace this technology by allowing public access to it.
The library service sees the free flow of information as important, however, in the interests of its users, all of the library’s internet computers are equipped with commercially produced filtering software in order to block access to material that might be deemed to be objectionable or undesirable.
In addition, users should be aware that Wolverhampton City Council also monitors computer use and in particular the use being made of the internet. A stronger filter controls children’s use of the internet, however, Wolverhampton Libraries cannot and does not guarantee that this filter will block all material deemed to be unsuitable for them.
