Community publicity in libraries

Libraries are used extensively by outside groups and organisations to publicise their work and activities.  This use may be in the form of a display, inclusion on the council website or posters and leaflets.

We will normally publicise:

  • clubs, societies, community activities and events that are taking place in Wolverhampton.  Priority will be given to council supported events and events taking place in the immediate locality of the library.
  • legal or statutory notices

We will not publicise:

  • information from or about commercial organisations that operate for profit
  • appeals for financial support or items advertising commercial schemes
  • items for sale
  • information from political organisations
  • material from religious organisations that is deemed to be proselytising, that is, encouraging people to join a particular sect or to adopt particular beliefs
  • posters or display materials that are damaged, out of date or otherwise inaccurate
  • information that contains content the council deems unsuitable for the council to publicise

We can offer no guarantee to exhibit any poster or display, its duration or its security whilst it’s in the library.

We reserve the right to remove or refuse to exhibit a display, poster or publish details of any group or individual on our website for any reason, at our complete discretion.

Before publishing any details of a local group or organisation on our website, we require the secretary or other appropriate official of the group to sign a declaration that they are happy for these details to be published.

The display of a poster or the publication of a groups details on the council’s website does not imply any form of endorsement by the council.

All display space should be booked in advance.  The library service will supply display boards; any special material such as velcro, etc., should be supplied by the organisers.

Only electrical equipment supplied by the library service can be used, in order to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

We offer no guarantees about the website’s availability, performance or level of usage.

Any queries regarding community publicity in libraries should be referred to the city librarian at Central Library, Snow Hill, Wolverhampton WV1 3AX, telephone 01902 552025 or e-mail libraries@wolverhampton.gov.uk
