What was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn

I have just enjoyed What was Lost, a first novel by Catherine O'Flynn. The story begins with a young who thinks she is a private investigator and spends time at her local shopping centre 'on surveillance' taking notes of suspicious behaviour, hoping to prevent a crime or a robbery. Sadly she becomes a victim herself and neither her body or her murderer is found.

20 years later a security guard at the shopping centre sees her image on his CCTV; how can this be explained? ... Read on!

This novel describes brilliantly the bleak, hidden and obsessive lives of people who work at the Centre, and others whose lives have been affected by it. There is another tragic death before the mystery is solved and the resolution is pure poetic justice.
