School visits to libraries

Class visits to libraries can be arranged, free of charge, at all of our main libraries. A librarian will give a brief introduction to the services available and if desired will talk about specific books and/or provide a story telling session. To arrange a session please contact your local library directly or contact Sue Mason on 01902 552023.

Schools' library development

The Education Library Service can offer the expertise of a qualified librarian to participating schools. They will help manage, develop and make full use of the school library.  They can help the school:

  • Introduce and develop a computerised library
  • Classify and label stock
  • Introduce and develop children's library and research skills
  • Assist with the purchase of new stock
  • Train staff and/or helpers in library skills
  • Assist with story times and literacy within the library setting
  • Create library displays and guiding
  • Introduce a pupils' reading group
  • Encourage a love of books, enjoyment of reading and reader development
  • Support the National Literacy Strategy through library and information skills
  • Deliver individually tailored projects

This service is charged at an additional daily rate.
