Bookstart
What is Bookstart?
Bookstart is administered by Booktrust, an independent Arts charity funded by the Arts Council England.
Bookstart is built on a simple premise - babies who have an early introduction to books benefit in lots of ways, educationally, socially, culturally and emotionally.
Libraries are committed to promoting the idea of early book sharing and seek to give every child the opportunity to develop a life long love of books.
What will my child get?
Your child will receive 3 Bookstart packs at regular intervals -
- In Wolverhampton, a Bookstart baby pack is given to babies by Health Visitors at their 6 month health check. The Baby pack is contained within a canvas shoulder bag and included are board books, leaflets and rhymes.
- A Bookstart satchel is given to 2 year olds by Health Visitors at the 2 year check up. The satchel contains books, a colouring pad, crayons and much more.
- The final Bookstart pack is a treasure chest which is given to children at their nursery settings when they are 3 years old. The treasure chest contains picture books, coloured pencils, a pencil sharpener, a set of 'bookplates' and ideas for future reading.
