Research facilities
There are a number of useful facilities at Wolverhampton's Archives and Local Studies unit to help you with your research.
It is advisable to contact us beforehand to check we have the records you require.
Our resources are listed below along with a brief description.
Search room
We provide a search room where you can consult:
- original archive material
- microforms - it is advisable to book a microform viewer in advance
- the local studies collection
The search room is open to anyone with an interest in the history of Wolverhampton and there is no charge to look at material* (see notes).
Conditions of entry
As the material in our care is unique we take special measures to ensure it is available both to you and to future generations.
First visit
Proof of your name and address required on your first visit
Subsequent visits
Once you have visited a record office and been issued with a CARN ticket you will not have to register with us again.
Excluded items
We provide secure lockers for you to store items that are not allowed into the search room itself. These include:
- Food
- Drink
- Bags
- Cameras
- Mobile phones
- Pens - pencils should be used to take notes

* There is a small charge when using microfiche viewers to consult the General Register Office indexes for births, marriages and deaths between 1837 and 2002.
