Seasonal colour in Wolverhampton

The changing weather has bought with it a spectrum of colour in parks and open spaces across Wolverhampton and the floral city team would like to ask residents and visitors who have been snap happy to send in their pictures.

Anyone who has captured a photograph of the seasonal landscapes found all over the city are being asked to send them in to floral.city@wolverhampton.gov.uk to be used in a small exhibition next year as part of the floral city judging.

Floral City is an all year round campaign and even though the flower beds are being prepared for winter, there are still plenty picturesque scenes as another season approaches.

The parks and contracts team, in partnership with Street Scene Services and Enterprise Plc, work hard all year round to maintain and enhance the the urban environment. The city continues to boast a portfolio of beautiful parks and a wealth of pristine open spaces.

2009 awards given at special ceremony

Wolverhampton has this year achieved a Silver Gilt for the Floral City entry into the Heart of England in Bloom Awards 2009. The certificate was presented by Sir William F Lawrence at a ceremony at Pershore Abbey.

Also, our seven neighbourhoods that entered all came away with Merit Awards; Boundary Way Allotments, Dickens Residential Lodge, Spring Valley Estate, Sandy Lane Allotments, Highfields Science Specialist School, Blakenhall Local Neighbourhood Partnership and Graiseley Court Sheltered Scheme.

An unexpected Certificate of Merit was given to West Park Hospital for their rehabilitation gardens.

A massive credit to the city and a huge achievement for everyone involved.

Competitions in the Best Garden and Hanging Basket, Best Flower, Best Vegetable, Best Business and Children's categories are judged by the Floral City team.
