Christmas travel

By road

Wolverhampton is conveniently located close to the heart of the UK motorway network. The M54 to the north of the city provides easy access to Telford, Shrewsbury and onto the M6, M5 and M1.

There is also easy access from Stafford, Cannock, Walsall, West Bromwich, Dudley, Kidderminster and Bridgnorth along main roads which come into the city centre and meet the city's ring road.

Park and ride

Wolverhampton has excellent parking provision in the city centre but there can be times of above average demand.

If you want to avoid peak hour congestion and enjoy a stress free journey into the city centre, why not park at one of the park and ride sites?

There are more than 400 free parking spaces in the car parks with frequent, convenient bus or Metro journeys to the city centre. Buses run every 5-10 minutes at peak times and trams run every 8 minutes at peak times and every 10 minutes on Sundays.

All park and ride car parks have boundary fencing and CCTV for added security.

Free parking is available at:

  • Priestfield Metro Station, Bilston Road - use Midland Metro
  • Tettenhall Pool, off A41 Wergs Road - use bus route 501
  • Plascom Road and Corser Street car parks, off A454 Willenhall Road - use bus route 529
  • Science Park, off Showell Road - use bus routes 525532 and 533.

Please note that we do not provide resident security staff at these car parks. Metro and bus fares are at the normal rate.
