Guidance notes - How to apply for a job vacancy

Please read the following guidance notes carefully before completing your application.

Before making an application

Before completing the application form please read the documents below which explain what we are looking for in a candidate, what we can offer as an employer and what you can expect when you apply for a job:

Job description, person specification and supporting information. These files can be downloaded from the job advert or received by post (see job advert for contact details).
The Information booklet for job applicants.
The guide for candidates on preventing illegal working (Home Office regulations).
Information for applicants on Single Status (changes to grading structures and terms and conditions).

Completing the application form

The application form is available electronically or by post:

Download the application form from the job advert. Save it to your computer and complete it using text processing software.
Contact us to receive an application form through the post - see the job advert for our contact details.

Submission of CVs

Please note: We do not accept CVs in place of application forms, unless you are submitting a CV because you have a disability which prevents you from completing the standard application form. Otherwise, applicants may attach a CV in support of a fully completed application form.

Return of completed application forms

Return your application form online or by e-mail (for most positions) or by post:

Online: Download the application form from the job advert and save it to your computer. Complete the form electronically, then choose the submit your application form online option from the job advert (this option is available in most cases).
E-mail: Download the application form from the job advert and save it to your computer. Complete the form electronically and return it by e-mail to the address shown on the job advert (this option is available in most cases).
Post: Complete the printed application form and return it to the address shown on the job advert.
