Housing strategies and policies
The Council has developed and is continuing to develop a number of strategies to help meet the housing needs of people of Wolverhampton. For more information refer to the pages outlined below:
Wolverhampton Housing Strategy – 2004/5 to 2006/7
The Housing Strategy sets out the vision and direction for all housing in Wolverhampton up until 2007.
Black and Minority Ethnic (BME)Housing Strategy
Consultation and research is currently underway to develop a citywide BME housing strategy. This will set out the approach to be taken by the Council and its partners in meeting the housing needs and aspirations of Black and Minority Ethnic communities across the city.
Private Sector Stock Condition Survey
The Council commissioned a private sector stock condition survey to assess the condition of private sector housing across the City to assist in the development of initiatives and strategies to assist owners and landlords to bring all private sector homes up to the Decent Home Standard
Housing Needs Study 2007
A full housing needs study was undertaken in 2007. This research report is now available for download.
Homelessness Strategy 2007 – 2010
Wolverhampton City Council's second Homelessness Strategy has been produced as a legislative requirement of the Homelessness Act 2002.
Supporting People Strategy 2005 - 2010
Supporting People assists individuals in need of housing support to access services so they can live independently in the community and improve their quality of life.
Empty Property Strategy 2004 – 2007
The Private Sector Empty Property Strategy sets out the ways in which the Council intends to encourage private sector owners to bring their empty properties back into occupation.
Affordable Warmth Strategy
The Affordable Warmth Strategy sets out the steps the Council has put in place to help the most vulnerable people and those on low incomes to have improved heating and insulation.
Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Document
The Council have produced a draft Supplementary Planning Document providing detailed guidance on the numbers of affordable homes private developers have to provide on new housing developments in Wolverhampton.
West Midlands Regional Housing Strategy
The Regional Housing Strategy sets out the regional priorities for housing, which are based around the following main themes: helping to regenerate Urban areas by providing a choice of housing to encourage people to continue to live in Cities like Wolverhampton, providing more affordable rented and low cost home ownership housing in rural areas so that families, young people etc can afford to live there.
