Introduction to the role of the housing strategy team
In October 2005 Wolverhampton Homes (an Arms Length Management Organisation) was set up to manage City Council owned housing. The Council still plays an important role, as a landlord and stock owner, and in monitoring the performance of Wolverhampton Homes to ensure that tenants receive a good quality housing management and maintenance service. Following service improvements Wolverhampton Homes has secured a 2 star grading when inspected by the Audit Commission; this has unlocked Government funding of £288m required to improve all Council owned homes to meet the Decent Homes Standard.
As part of the Council's ongoing role, the Housing Strategy Team carry out consultation and research to understand the need and demand for housing in neighbourhoods across the City, including vulnerable groups and develops strategies and action plans to help meet these needs. This involves working with partners, such as housing associations, to attract the investment needed to provide the housing required.
