Empty private properties
Empty properties are a problem for communities. They attract vandalism and anti-social behaviour, and they devalue neighbouring properties.
They are also a financial loss for the owner in lost income and can be an expensive responsibility, as Council Tax and insurance must still be paid, along with security, maintenance and repair costs.
The Council receives a lot of complaints about empty properties from concerned neighbours who are experiencing problems, especially where properties are insecure and attracting vandalism.
This is why the Council is looking at initatives to bring these properties back into residential use.
