Private sector stock condition survey 2006
Why undertake stock condition surveys?
Private sector stock condition surveys are conducted by local authorities as a means of maintaining a detailed picture of housing conditions in the private sector. The Housing Act 2004 requires local authorities to undertake a comprehensive assessment of housing needs and conditions, and to produce strategies to tackle the housing problems in their areas.
Consultants were commissioned to undertake this survey and have developed a database on the quality of private sector housing across the City.
This then assists the Council in developing strategies and initiatives around private sector housing across the City including both owner occupied and private rented properties to improve conditions and decency, targeted to the areas where they are most needed.
