Claiming Housing Benefit for two homes

You can claim help with the rent on two homes only in a very limited number of circumstances.

  • If you move house and there is an unavoidable delay: for example, if you wait for the period of notice to finish on your old home before you move (in case you miss out on your new property) we can pay for up to four weeks.
  • We may be able to pay if you have to give up your tenancy due to genuine threats of physical violence against you or any member of your family, and need to move before the notice on the property ends.
  • We may also be able to pay you if you have to move out due to violence at your home and have to pay rent elsewhere but want to move back into your home when the situation has been sorted out.

If you want to know more, please contact us and we will let you know if we can help you in this way.
