Multiple occupancy homes

A House in Multiple Occupation, HMO, is a house or flat which is occupied by more than one household sharing either a:

  • Toilet
  • Wash basin
  • Shower or bath
  • Cooking facilities.

We carry out proactive inspections of HMOs of three or more storeys. If conditions are not up to standard, the landlord or owner is required to improve them. We also offer advice to owners of HMOs on acceptable standards, including means of escape in case of fire.
