Switching energy supplier

How do I benefit from switching supplier?

Rising fuel bills have have helped focus attention on saving energy over the last couple of years.  This website helps you to identify ways in which you can reduce your bills by saving energy and reduce your carbon footprint to help fight climate change.

There are many ways to help protect the environment and your wallet by saving energy.  These include getting your loft and wall insulated, installing a new heating system, putting into practice all the energy savings tips you can and the final icing on the cake of course is investing in renewable energy.

However, there is still one more simple way to reduce your impact on the climate and your bank balance and that is to switch energy supplier.  Many people switch their gas and electricity supplier as often as they switch their bank.  In other words never!  If you are one of these people you could be paying far more for your gas and electricity than you need to.

The importance of 'Green Tariffs'

Around 25% of all the UK's CO2 emissions come from the home.  However, all the major energy companies and many of the smaller ones now provide 'Green Tariffs'.

They all tend to work in slightly different ways but essentially it means your CO2 emissions will be offset by buying energy from carbon neutral sources such as wave, wind, solar and hydro electricity.  Some companies will also ensure that the energy you buy from them will be invested in the production of new renewable energy technologies such as offshore wind farms.

Aren't Green Tariffs more expensive?!

All the sites provide you with the choice to switch to a Green Tariff and often this will be the same price as an equivalent tariff for the same company.  It is certainly worth giving the energy company a call to be sure.  After all if you can be green and still save the same amount of money what have you got to lose?!  You can look at the cost of Green Tariffs only by clicking here: Green Electricity.

So how can I make the switch?

Consumer Direct provides a list of energy comparison sites on their website.  Make the switch now!  Some of the names may be familiar to you.  We cannot recommend a particular site but all of the sites have been approved by EnergyWatch and will give a good indicator on how much money you could save (or lose if you're already with a cheaper energy tariff) by switching supplier.  Some of the sites will give you the opportunity to switch online as well.

I need some more information...
