Make your home cosy this winter!
Homeowners and tenants renting privately in Wolverhampton are being urged to insulate their home against the cold and windy weather. Insulating your loft and walls will stop the heat from escaping, so you should be able to turn the heating down and still feel cosy.
What's more, by cutting down on the amount of energy you are using you will not only be saving money on your annual fuel bills but also be doing your bit in the fight to reduce the effects of climate change.
What discounts are available?
Loft insulation and cavity wall insulation can be installed for £99 (per measure) (Example price quoted is for a 3 bedroom semi- detached house with wall area to be insulated not exceeding 100m2 and/or the loft area to be insulated not exceeding 55m2).
This offer is subject to a free no obligation survey and prices depend on the wall and/or the loft area to be insulated. In all cases the installer will provide you with a firm price for the work.
Who can apply?
Under the government's carbon emissions reduction target (CERT) scheme, 100% grants are available for every homeowner who is aged 70 or over to install cavity wall and loft insulation entirely free of charge (subject to survey). Over 70’s living in privately rented housing - with the landlord's approval can also apply. The same also applies to residents in receipt on income-based benefits (excludes social housing tenants).
Where do these prices come from?
Wolverhampton City Council work in partnership with the Mark Group to provide competitive rates for residents in Wolverhampton. They can arrange the work for you at this reduced cost thanks to grant support from energy suppliers.
The scheme is open to all homeowners and those renting privately in the City. This offer is not available to social tenants. Wolverhampton Homes tenants will be assisted through the Decent Homes Programme.
If you receive a means tested benefit you may be eligible for a 100% grant and if you’re
aged 70 or over you’ll pay nothing at all.
Who will be carrying out the installation work?
Wolverhampton City Council has chosen the Mark Group to deliver this service. The Mark Group is a nationwide company who began insulating homes back in 1974. Today they help over 6,000 homes become more energy efficient every week from 14 distribution centres including one based in the Black Country.
Funds are limited and we anticipate a high demand for the offer with energy prices set to rise further over the years to come. Go to the Mark Group website for more information.
