Children with disabilities
Social Services helps children and young people with disabilities and their families. Our help is available through the Children With Disabilities Team which works with the most severely disabled children.
The team is made up of a small number of social workers who have a lot of experience of working with disabled children and their families across the city.
The team can give advice on how to obtain:
- Practical help at home like a piece of equipment to help you carry out tasks, or perhaps an adaptation like building a ramp at your front door
- Help for your child in a Children's Day Centre
Information that may enable you to get a Carer Support Grant
- Short breaks for a child or young person with foster carers or in one of our residential homes
- Sitting or care services in the home
- Out of school clubs
- Information about play schemes during school holidays
- Parent and carer support groups
- Advice on managing difficult behaviour
