Welfare rights

The council provides funding for a number of agencies to provide welfare rights advice.  They include:

In addition, the council has its own welfare rights team to provide support to social work staff in meeting their community care responsibilities to vulnerable adults and their carers by promoting the take-up of benefits and maximising the incomes of those in need of social care services.

This support comprises training, information, advice, assistance, joint work and casework referrals (including representation at tribunals), as appropriate.  The Welfare Rights Service is also responsible for devising and implementing take-up strategies aimed at promoting the take-up of benefits by users of home care, Supporting People and other services.

The service also produces a guide to benefit rates.  This is available in PDF format below and contains the rates for 2009-10.
