Housing Related Support

What is Housing Related Support?

Housing Related Support funds organisations which provide support to a range of people who require assistance to live independently at home.

What's the difference?

Housing Related Support is the new name for Supporting People. When Supporting People was established in 2003 a special pot of money called The Supporting People Grant was set aside by the Government to deliver Housing Related Support Services to vulnerable adults nationally.

This pot of money for Supporting People has been used to fund support services that help people to be as independent as possible. Helping people to do things for themselves, rather than have people do it for them.

From April 2009, funding to deliver these services no longer comes to the council through the Supporting People Grant.

It is included in a larger pot of money the council get called The Area Based Grant. This is then shared out across a number of council services including housing related support.

You will hear Supporting People referred to in future as Housing Related Support. This reflects the fact that the council no longer gets a separate Supporting People Grant.

Services that we fund can help you with:

  • applying for benefits, budgeting and managing debts
  • dealing with care professionals, family, neighbours and advocating on your behalf
  • finding somewhere to live and setting up home
  • gaining access to other support or community services
  • keeping an eye on your well-being
  • learning domestic, life or social skills in order to become more independent
  • providing alarm systems to enable people to call for help in an emergency
  • finding out about work or training.

Our local service directory lists all supported housing providers currently funded by Supporting People in Wolverhampton.
