Carer support
Our Carer Support Team provides support for carers across the city. There are an estimated 26,000 unpaid carers in Wolverhampton who provide support and help for a friend, relative or neighbour.
If you are a carer you can ask adult social care services to look at your needs as well as those of the person that you care for.
If you have an assessment of your own needs as a carer, it gives you the chance to find out information and ask for help to make it easier for you to continue to look after the person that you care for.
What is a carer?
A carer is anyone who provides a great deal of care for a relative, friend or neighbour on a regular basis without payment.
Being a carer can mean many things, from simply supporting and keeping a check on someone, to a full time caring role. Many people don't get the support they need because they don't recognise themselves as carers.
It can be difficult coping with the pressures of caring, whether it is the physical exhaustion, financial hardship or the emotional stress. If you are a carer/relative you may feel that you are alone and overwhelmed. Finding other carers to talk to can help you come to terms with your feelings and provide much needed support.
