Help for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing
If you are Deaf or hard of hearing/hearing impaired, there are a number of ways we can help you so you can stay independent and look after yourself at home.
All our services are provided after an assessment of your needs. This is where we will ask you questions to help us decide what help you need.
You may be expected to pay a contribution towards the total cost of some services such as home care and meals on wheels, which will depend on your income.
Social workers can also provide you with:
- Advice and support
- Counselling
- Information
- A whole range of community care services like home care, respite care, or meals on wheels.
Technical officer
- Do you have problems at home because you are Deaf or hard of hearing?
- Do you have problems hearing the doorbell, TV, telephone or the baby crying?
If the answer is yes, the Neville Garratt Centre has a technical officer who can offer assessment, advice, information and provision of some appropriate equipment to enhance/maintain independence, such as:
- Textphones, doorbells with a flashing light, loop systems
Most of the equipment is free. Certain equipment, such as an amplified telephone may need to be bought by the client, but we can offer advice about these items.
Our aim is to make sure that people who are Deaf or hard of hearing/hearing impaired can get accurate and reliable advice to make their everday lives easier.
