Review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations 2007

The Council has carried out a review of polling districts and polling places over the last few months in the Parliamentary Constituencies of Wolverhampton North East, Wolverhampton South East and Wolverhampton South West.

Administrative areas

Each of the three Wolverhampton constituencies is separated into smaller units called polling districts.  A polling district is normally the area of streets served by a single polling place. The polling station is the room within the polling place where the poll is taken.  Normally, the same polling districts are used for both Westminster Parliamentary elections and local council elections

At council elections the constituency boundaries are ignored and the election is organised in twenty areas called wards. Each ward is represented by three Councillors.

Representations and comments

After public notice of the review was given, the Council invited representations and comments from electors and other interested persons.

Arrangements considered by Special Advisory Group

The Returning Officer published his comments on the existing polling stations, but recommended there should be no change to polling district boundaries.  The recommendations were considered by an all-party Special Advisory Group.  At their meeting on 15 October 2007 the S.A.G. considered changes to the location of certain polling stations in line with comments received in connection with the review.

Report approved by the Council

The report of the Special Advisory Group was submitted to the full Council meeting held on 7th November 2007 and approved.

Details of the Returning Officer's comments on each polling distirict and polling station are available below in PDF format.
