The current ward boundaries came into force on 10 June, 2004 following a full ward boundary review (see below).
The City Council elections for 2004 were held on 10 June 2004 (instead of being held in May) because the Government changed the day of the local elections to coincide with the European Parliamentary Elections.
All three seats in each ward were contested in the election.
Review of ward boundaries
The review of ward boundaries that came into force on 10th June 2004 was conducted by the Boundary Commission for England with the assistance of the City Council.
The aim of the review was to equalize (as far as possible) the number of electors in all wards, and so balance the ratio of voters to Councillors across the City.
