Accessing personal information
This page describes how you can access information that the Council holds about you in line with the Data Protection Act.
Rights of access
Under the Data Protection Act, Wolverhampton City Council has a duty to protect the personal data it processes.
In line with the act, an individual has a right to request information held about them.
A request for information about an individual other than the subject of the information will be rejected except in the following circumstances:
- Parents may request information about a child under 16;
- A Solicitor may request information on behalf of individual with that individual’s approval.
What will you get?
- A copy of the information held about you
- A description of the information processed
- The purposes for which the information is being processed
- A list of recipients of whom the information are/may be disclosed
- An explanation of any codes used
What is the process?
- A request must be made in writing
- The request must identify which Services you’re interested in or have had dealings with
- Proof of identity will be required when submitting your request. Acceptable forms of ID include:
- Your information will be provided to you within 40 days as stated in the Data Protection Act.
- The Council’s Data Protection Adviser will invite you in to collect the information.
