The Webocracy project

Wolverhampton City Council was a partner in the Webocracy project, which was funded by the European Community under the Information Society Technology Programme (1998-2002). The project ran from October 2000 to December 2003. It developed an Internet based system designed to bring the working of the Council closer to citizens, making it more accessible and easier to understand. It was hoped to encourage more participation in democracy as well as making services more efficient.

The project was the EU e-government R&D Project of the Month for November 2003, and also features in online articles about the results in Wolverhampton and Slovakia.

The Wolforum website was created through the project, but has now been superseded. Similar online discussions and opinion polls about local issues are now provided through the e-panel facilities on the Wolverhampton Partnership website.
