Tettenhall Pool

Pools open as summer approaches

Released: 22 May 2008

Two popular paddling pools will reopen this weekend – ready to cool down bathing Wulfrunians throughout the summer.

Wolverhampton City Council’s park rangers have been busy preparing the pools at Tettenhall and East Park and members of the public will be able to take a dip from this Saturday onwards (24 May).

Senior ranger Allan Wassall, who has been putting the finishing touches to Tettenhall pool with his team this week, said: “Tettenhall Pool and East Pool are really popular with members of the public and we are delighted that they will be open throughout the summer period.”

Staff from the city council and colleagues from Severn Trent Water spent five days pumping around 700m³ of water into Tettenhall Pool, finishing the mammoth task last Friday (16 May).  Since then they have been testing out the pumps, purifying the water and ensuring the area around the pool is neat and tidy ahead of Saturday’s official opening.

It will remain filled throughout the summer, only closing to the public on 7 September.  East Pool, which with a capacity of 150m³ is around a fifth the size of Tettenhall, will be open for the same length of time.

Tettenhall Pool can hold the equivalent of 1,231,842 pints or 153,978 gallons, while East Pool can hold 263,960 pints – 32,995 gallons.

Allan said: “Filling Tettenhall Pool in particular is a massive job – we have to work with Severn Trent to ensure that we don’t disrupt the supply to people living nearby, and we are grateful for their support.

“We always aim to open the pools over the late spring bank holiday weekend and we are delighted to be able to offer these facilities to the people of Wolverhampton”, he added.

Wolverhampton City Council has asked pool users to help keep the area neat and tidy by taking their litter home with them.  Local bylaws make it illegal to light fires – including barbecues – and dogs are not permitted in the vicinity of the pools.
