Staff book in for national TV show
Released: 14 March 2008
Wolverhampton City Council staff will star on national TV after sharing their thoughts on a local author’s first book for The Culture Show.
Staff members were filmed reviewing Sathnam Sanghera’s memoir If You Don’t Know Me By Now: A Memoir of Love, Secrets and Lies in Wolverhampton for the BBC2 programme.
They were joined at Central Library last night (Thursday March 13) by members of the public and the author himself.
The group discussed their opinions of the memoir and its portrayal of growing up in the city for the episode to be shown on Saturday March 22, at 7pm.
Councillor John Reynolds, Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “We are delighted that The Culture Show came to Wolverhampton and invited staff from the council to take part in the book review.
“It again highlights the literary talent here in the city as well as our lively arts and culture scene.”
The filming coincides with the setting up of an Indo-Anglian readers’ group by the Library Service. It is hoped that the filming will create more interest in the group which will hold its first meeting on Saturday April 19. The group will meet at the newly refurbished Alan Garner Centre, next to Central Library in Old Hall Street, from 3pm to 4pm and will discuss readers’ opinions of Sathnam’s book.
Copies of If You Don’t Know Me By Now: A Memoir of Love, Secrets and Lies in Wolverhampton are available at Wolverhampton Libraries.
Sathnam will also visit Wolverhampton to talk about his memoir and his life as well as read some of his favourite extracts from the book on Wednesday May 21. The event will be held at the Alan Garner Centre at 7.30pm.
