Bilston neighbourhood recycling initiative

Released: 11 March 2008

Residents in Bilston will help to boost Wolverhampton’s recycling effort this weekend.

A community recycling event is taking place at The Lunt on Saturday, March 15.

As part of The Lunt Neighbourhood Recycling Initiative, residents are being asked to sort and place recyclable items on the pavement outside their houses before 8.30am. The items will then be collected by recycling teams.

The initiative is organised by Bilston East Local Neighbourhood Partnership, The Lunt Tenants and Residents Association and Wolverhampton City Council, in partnership with Enterprise.

Residents are asked to leave out the following items for recycling: wood/timber; electrical; glass; metals; mixed paper/card and plastics.

The main streets being targeted for this Neighbourhood Recycling Initiative are: Addison Place; Brueton Road; Clinton Road; Bickley Road; Lunt Road; Chantrey Crescent; Boswell Road; Tramway Close; Dartmouth Crescent; Shaftsbury Close; Johnson Place; Langton Place; Lunt Place; Kempthorne Road and Scafell Drive.

Ann Nightingale, Chair of The Lunt Tenants and Residents Association said: “We would be glad for any help from willing residents and volunteers to help those more in need to get their recyclable items to the pavement.

“If you are interested in helping out we are meeting at The Lunt Community Centre at 8.15am.”

Councillor Pat Byrne, Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, will be pitching in to help make the day a success.

She said: “I am very pleased to be out again in the east Bilston area with this recycling project.

“Two neighbourhood recycling initiatives which took place last year in the east Bilston area - at Loxdale and the Royal Estate - were very successful. I’m sure everyone involved will make sure that this weekend’s event matches their success.”

Leaflets are being posted to residents in the targeted streets to inform them about the day.
