Wolverhampton’s India Summer is the theme for Bilston North Local Neighbourhood Partnership’s community festival this year.
A host of activities including Indian dancing, a dohl drum workshop and henna painting will keep visitors entertained throughout the festival at the Gurdwara Baba Wadbhag Singh Ji, 32 to 34 Mount Pleasant, Bilston.
The festival, on Saturday June 28, also features a fashion show, exhibitions, stalls, displays, competitions, games, a circus skills workshop, bouncy castle, food, live music and much more.
MP Pat McFadden will officially open the event at 12.30pm, but the festival will be open to the public from 12pm and will run until 4pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Councillor Phil Page, Chair of Bilston North Local Neighbourhood Partnership, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to show some of the positive things that are happening locally and to demonstrate the community spirit that exists in the area.
“I am particularly pleased that the local neighbourhood partnership has chosen to celebrate in this way the positive contribution, both culturally and economically, that Indian influences have made and continue to make to Wolverhampton.”
The festival is one of a range of events taking place as part of the Wolverhampton India Summer which aims to celebrate the contribution of people of Indian descent to the city and enhance cultural understanding.
This is the third year that the community festival has taken place in north Bilston. The event is organised by the Bilston North Local Neighbourhood Partnership team which is based at the Parish Centre, Connaught Road, Bilston.
