Extended shopmobility service for city show
Released: 11 June 2008
Wolverhampton residents and visitors are being reminded that help is available to ensure anyone with mobility difficulties can enjoy the City Show.
Electric mobility scooters and manual wheelchairs can be booked in advance from Wolverhampton City Council’s Shopmobility service for the show at West Park on July 12 and 13.
Friendly staff can arrange for people to pick up mobility equipment either from the Shopmobility base in the Wulfrun Shopping Centre or directly from the Shopmobility marquee at West Park. These services will be available on both days of the show. People are encouraged to book equipment in advance and use the dedicated Shopmobility parking spaces outside the shop at Cleveland Street. Customers will then be able to pick up their equipment and will be given a route to make their own way to the show. Alternatively, customers may wish to book equipment in advance and staff will have pre-booked equipment waiting at the Shopmobility marquee in West Park, although parking at the park cannot be guaranteed. Shopmobility operates from the Wulfrun Shopping Centre. A range of mobility scooters, wheelchairs and trolleys can be hired for use around the city centre. Shopmobility has a selection of three and four wheeled scooters which have the capacity to assist people weighing up to 35 stone.
For all powered equipment, the charge is 50p for the first hour and 25p for each additional hour after. Manual wheelchairs are charged at 50p per loan and there is no charge for the use of shopping trolleys. In addition, a holiday loan service is available. Manual wheelchairs can be loaned for a period of up to three weeks. The charge for this service is £1 per day.
Shopmobility’s normal opening times are Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 4pm, except for Bank Holidays when it is closed. Dedicated car parking is available for Shopmobility customers.
