Get 'on yer bike at healthy living centre

Released: 11 June 2008

Graiseley Community Healthy Living Centre in Wolverhampton is taking part in National Bike Week (June 14 to 22).

The centre is run by the city council, which is working in partnership with the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust and All Saints & Blakenhall Community Development (ABCD) to give residents the chance to improve their health and well being.

A series of events are being staged for serious and not so serious cyclists. These include:

Tuesday June 17

A display of the latest bike technology by Fred Williams Cycles in the reception foyer from noon to 4pm.
A fundraising stationary bike ride in aid of Sport Relief in the main hall from noon to 5pm.

Thursday June 19:

A children’s accompanied bike ride around Graiseley Park with Walking for Health and Graiseley Primary School 3pm to 5pm.

Friday June 20

Free security marking by ABCD wardens in reception foyer 2pm to 4pm.
A healthy eating display by the community food health team in the reception foyer from 2pm to 4pm.

People are being invited to come to the centre on a bike or take part in the charity stationary bike ride and use the centre for half price (75p off peak, £1.85 peak times). This does not include leisure card discounts.

Duty officer Darren Harris said: “Bike Week is one of the UK's biggest cycling events and is an annual opportunity to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun.

“Thousands of events are being run up and down the UK to provide the opportunity for novices to passionate cyclists to get on their bikes. We would urge people to come along to Graiseley and enjoy the fun.”

Issued by the press office.
