National Playday comes to Bantock Park
Released: 29 July 2008
Children will enjoy a wide range of fun activities when Wolverhampton celebrates National Playday in Bantock Park, Finchfield Rd, Finchfield on Wednesday, 6 August between 11am and 3pm.
This year’s Playday theme is called ‘Give us a go!’ The idea is to encourage children to manage their own risk and take part in more challenging play opportunities rather than being wrapped up in cotton wool.
Wolverhampton City Council’s Early Years, Childcare and Play Services along with Family Information Service are organising the event at Bantock Park, and there’s a wide range of adventurous activities for youngsters to try, including break-dancing, circus skills, den building, scaling a climbing wall and much more. For smaller participants, there’s a toddler village, and the event will be hosted by 107.7 FM The Wolf Radio.
Councillor David Bourne, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “National Playday is about giving children and families a great day out, but it also puts across some more serious messages about the importance of play. “Children learn about themselves and the world around them through play, and it also helps them to develop confidence, self-esteem and creativity.”
