Castlecroft Road and Oak Hill resurfacing
Released: 25 July 2008
Wolverhampton City Council is to resurface Castlecroft Road and Oak Hill after years of work by utility companies has left the carriageway in a poor condition.
The resurfacing will begin on August 11 and the main phase of the scheme is due to be completed by August 30. The bulk of the work is being done during the school holidays to minimise disruption. Council highways officers are also coordinating the scheme with the current gas main replacement programme in Castlecroft Road and Finchfield Road West.
Councillor Paddy Bradley, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said: “We do apologise to residents for causing them more disruption, we know they have already endured a lot. However, I do appeal to them to bear with us for a few more weeks while we put right the damage that has been caused to the carriageway by all the utility works. Once this resurfacing is complete, the good news is there are no road works planned in Castlecroft Road for the foreseeable future.”
The resurfacing will require road closures and diversions to be set up via Bridgnorth Road and Finchfield Hill. Vehicle access to frontages will be maintained as far as possible and site staff will be on hand to assist with any issues at all times.
The work will be done in three phases, the dates of which could change depending on rates of progress, weather conditions etc. Phase one will see Castlecroft Road resurfaced from The Firs Pub to The Avenue from August 11 to 16. Work will then move to the stretch from The Avenue to Oak Hill from August 18 to 23. The third phase will see Oak Hill and the roundabout at the junction of Oak Hill and Finchfield Lane resurfaced from August 25 to August 30.
The remaining small stretch of Castlecroft Road between Oak Hill and Coppice Road, as well as the roundabout at the Castlecroft Road/Coppice Road/Finchfield Road West, will be completed in the autumn when the gas main works are finished.
The 543 bus service will continue to operate, but its route will be affected and some bus stops will be closed. Details will be available on special signs placed on the bus stops or calling Travel West Midlands on 01902 437800.
Anyone with any questions about the overall scheme should contact Gwyn James or Simon May on 01902 555743.
