Italian market - 24 to 26 July 2008

A taste of Italy comes to city

Released: 23 July 2008

Rows of colourful stalls overflowing with fresh Italian produce will fill the centre of Wolverhampton when a popular specialist market makes a welcome return to the city this week.

An authentic Italian Market will bring the sights, sounds, tastes and aromas of the country to Wolverhampton tomorrow (Thursday), Friday and Saturday (24-26 July).

The market, which returns to the city for its third successive year, will feature stalls run by specialist Italian traders in Dudley Street, from 9.30am to 4pm each day.

Councillor Barry Findlay, Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “I am delighted to welcome the Italian Market back to the city. It has proved very popular with shoppers who enjoy the chance to experience the authentic tastes and flavours of Italy.

“This market, alongside our French, continental and local markets, gives an extra buzz to the city centre and provides yet another incentive to visit Wolverhampton.”

Goods for sale will include bread, pastries, focaccias and savouries, cheese cured meats, pasta marinated olives and pickles, dry fruits, spices and nuts, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, plus a wine stall.

For those with a sweet tooth there will be a variety of nougats and Torrone, chocolates and a sweets stall.

Shoppers will also be able to enjoy a choice of delicious refreshments including hot sausages and succulent porchetta sandwiches, pancakes and crespelle.

Issued by the press office.
