What's on where in Wolverhampton this summer
Released: 7 July 2008
Wolverhampton’s thriving entertainment scene is hotting up this summer – and the new look What’s On Where guide ensures you don’t miss a minute of the action.
Packed with more information than ever before, the guide – out now – is bursting with great music, theatre, films, exhibitions, activities and events taking place between now and the end of September.
Highlights at the Grand Theatre include Beauty and the Beast on Ice, the world premier of Flashdance, Joe McGann in Fiddler on The Roof, Le Grand Cirque and Charles Vance’s ever popular Summer Rep programme which this year features The Murder Game, Dangerous Obsession, Murder Without Crime and Gaslight.
If it is music you are after, get down to the Civic Halls’ popular venues, which will be welcoming the likes of Sam Sparro, Little Feat and The Frontline Orchestra.
Cinema from around the globe fills the big screen at the Light House, which also continues with its popular programme of film and TV quizzes. There is even a special showing of the film Sideways, set in California’s wine region, followed by a wine tasting event.
Exhibitions at the city’s galleries and museums include Open West Midlands, highlighting the vibrant talent of local artists, and About Art, showcasing Wolverhampton’s unique and diverse collection of artworks and decorative objects, both at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, while Craftsense, which explores 300 years of craft history, continues at Bilston Craft Gallery.
There are also a host of workshops and activities for young and old – from print making, animal sculptures, tissue tiles, rag rugs and puppet making to garden parties and a Punch and Judy show at Bantock House and Park.
There is a wide programme of events organised by the city’s library service while West Park will host the City Show and David Dickinson comes to the Civic Hall to film his Real Deal TV show.
There are also full details of Wolverhampton’s Indian Summer, which celebrates the music, art, fashion and food of India at venues around the city.
And with details about events at other council-run venues, sports arenas and the city’s two National Trust properties, there are plenty of reasons to get out and about in the sunshine.
Emma Cleary, What’s on Where Wolverhampton coordinator, said: “The What’s On Where guide now includes a brief description of each of our events, making it even easier for people to find out what each one entails – particularly those with more obscure titles.
“Everything from live music, theatre, film, art, comedy and sport is covered and families, children, friends, couples and individuals are all catered for.”
The free guide is available from the Civic Centre, the Visitor Information Centre in Queen Square, local libraries and community centres and leisure outlets throughout the region.
