Wolverhampton City Marathon 2008

Marathon appeal for local charities

Released: Friday, 25 January 2007

Preparations are just beginning for this years Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon, Half Marathon, Relay Challenge and Cycle Event due to take place on Sunday 7 September 2008.

The Organising Committee, made up of local sponsors and supporting authorities are appealing to local charities to register their interest in becoming beneficiaries of this years event.

Ivan Savage, Chair of the Organising Committee and Group Sales Director for local Builders Merchants and promoters, Carver (Wolverhampton) Limited explained the wonderful opportunity open to local charities:

“Each year the Marathon supports four local charities. In 2007 the beneficiaries of the event were Wolverhampton Rheumatology Support Group, Wolverhampton and Midlands Counties Eye Infirmaries – League of Friends, St. Anthony's Cheshire Home and the Mayoral Charity Fund who each received a cheque for £6,200”.

We are appealing to local charities to register their interest in becoming one of this years beneficiaries, which will not only help to increase funds for their charitable cause, but also enables them to become part of a fantastic fundraising event for the city.

To qualify for consideration, the charitable organisations have to provide a representative to attend the monthly Marathon committee meetings held at Birmingham Midshires offices and most importantly, a minimum of 20 marshals to be trained before the event and to attend all day on Marathon Sunday to work on the route”.

The annual city event is once again made possible by support from sponsors and supporting organisations including Carvers Building Supplies, Birmingham Midshires, Wolverhampton City Council and West Midlands Police.

Any charities wishing to register their interest should do so in writing to:

Ivan Savage
Chair, Marathon Organising Committee

by Friday 8th February 2008.

Issued on behalf of the Marathon Organising Committee.
