Bilston residents invited to have their say

Released: Tuesday, 22 January 2008

More than 3,000 people are being asked for their views on community facilities and activities in parts of Bilston.

Residents in the Bradley and Loxdale areas are being consulted on what they think about existing community facilities and what events and activities they get involved in during their leisure time.

They are also invited to share their thoughts on what other facilities or events they would like to see provided.

Bilston East Local Neighbourhood Partnership and Wolverhampton City Council have come together to organise the consultation to help plan community projects in the future.

Mary Jacobs, Neighbourhood Manager, said: “This consultation is an opportunity for local people to say what kind of facilities would be most useful to their family, young and old.

“The questionnaire will provide the city council with a detailed picture of local public opinion on what activities should be maintained or introduced. This will be very helpful to future planning of local community provision. I urge everyone who receives a questionnaire to have their say.”

The consultation is a key part of the partnership’s Action Plan and has been progressed by a leisure task group, made up of representatives from the local community, service providers and other agencies.

It also responds to calls from residents for more research into local opinion on community facilities and activities for Old Bradley and Loxdale in particular.

Richard Welch, Community Recreation Manager, said: “Thanks must be expressed to all of those volunteers and council staff that have made this critical consultation exercise possible.

“It is essential that residents have the opportunity to feed back their views on current provision within the local area as this information will be used to make decisions on where resources are directed in the future.”

A questionnaire is being distributed door-to-door during January, with several key partnership organisations offering their services to make sure it gets to all the relevant residents.

The partnership is also organising four surgeries for anyone who might need help filling out their questionnaire. These surgeries will be at:

Bradley Senior Citizen’s Centre, Bank Street, Bradley

  • Monday, 28 January 2008, from 10am to 12noon and 5pm to 7pm.

St Mary’s Church, Oxford Street, Loxdale

  • Thursday, 31 January 2008, from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm.

Anyone who would like to attend any of the surgeries is asked to call either Sunita Sanji or Steve Poole on 01902 551760 in advance.

Everyone returning a questionnaire before February 18 will also be entered into a prize draw to win shopping vouchers.

For further information please contact Community Development Worker Steve Poole on 01902 551760.
