Clairvoyant scam warning
Released: 14 January 2008
Trading Standards Officers are warning Wolverhampton residents to ignore a ‘clairvoyant’ letter scam from Karina Natalia, World Famous Psychic Healer “The Woman with X-ray Eyes” from London.
Karina says recipients of the letter have a “special bond” with her and asks them to provide personal details, such as their date and place of birth, partners’ names and birth dates and even the names of their favourite pets. Such information could be sufficient to steal identities and run up thousands of pounds in debts.
In 2003 the Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the mailing was likely to exploit or alarm vulnerable people, but Karina did not respond to the authority’s investigation.
Anyone receiving one of these letters is urged to ignore it and you can prevent the many of this type of letting being received by registering with the Mailing Preference Service (MPS).
This is a free service funded by the direct mail industry to enable consumers to have their names and home addresses in the UK removed from or added to lists used by the industry. You can register online at the Mail Preference Service website or by telephone on 0845 703 4599.
Further information can be obtained from; Mailing Preference Service (MPS), DMA House, 70 Margaret Street, London W1W 8SS.
