Adult education staff put children's needs first
Released: 11 January 2008
Adult Education Service staff put the fun into fundraising when they collected more than £1,800 for charity.
They handed over a cheque for £1,824.74 to representatives of Children in Need on Tuesday (JAN 8) after holding a week of money-spinning events.
Staff from the Learning Quarter Café got the fundraising drive off to an energetic start when they completed 1,000 laps of the kitchen in a relay.
Then site manager John Chilton and site staff member Lee Southall put their heads in the stocks for students and fellow staff to pelt them with wet sponges.
Other events at the Adult Education Service base at Wolverhampton’s City Learning Quarter included an auction of items made by arts, crafts and media staff, soup tasting, a demonstration of flower arranging and card making and a sponsored exercise session. There were also bring and buy sales.
Sian Fletcher, curriculum manager for the Wolverhampton City Council-run service, said: “Children in Need is a really worthwhile cause and we were delighted that lots of people – our staff, adult learners and the general public – came along and joined in the fun.
"We are really pleased to have raised such a lot for charity, and we have set ourselves a bench mark to beat when Children in Need comes around again."
