Resurfacing of A41 The Rock and Wergs Road in Tettenhall
Released: 12 February 2008
Update: Press release - 3 March 2008
A worn out stretch of one of Wolverhampton’s busiest roads is to be resurfaced to make it safer and reduce noise for residents. Work on the section of the A41 (The Rock/Wergs Road) between Church Road and Keepers Lane, in Tettenhall, will start on Monday February 25.
The road will get a new ‘quiet’ surface which will significantly lower noise from traffic by absorbing some of the sound. It will also reduce the amount of spray from vehicles in wet weather making it safer.
Work on the scheme will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am due to the narrow width of some parts of the road and the heavy traffic flow during the day. This will help to minimise delays. Vehicle access will be maintained for those whose properties front onto the road as well as the emergency services.
The 501 bus service between Tettenhall and Wolverhampton will be affected for two evenings due to the closure of the end of Regis Road. Buses will be diverted via Wrottesley Road and Redhouse Road.
Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise , said: “We are doing everything possible to minimise any inconvenience this scheme will cause and will make every effort to complete the job as quickly and efficiently as possible. We recognise that night time working will disrupt the area at normally quiet times, however the programme has been designed to confine the noisiest operations to the earlier part of each shift. This is another example of the council keeping the road infrastructure up to date and traffic moving in the city.”
All properties affected by the scheme have been written to and given a provisional programme of works. Detailed information is available below or by calling Gwyn James on 01902 555755.
