Children in the swim thanks to 50p offer

Released: 1 February 2008

Youngsters will be able to enjoy a ‘Fin-tastic February’ when they take the plunge this half-term.

Wolverhampton City Council is giving children aged 16 and under the chance to swim for just 50p - with under fives going free.

They can take advantage of the ‘Fin-tastic February’ offer during general public swimming sessions at Bilston Leisure Centre or Central Baths from Saturday, February 9, to Sunday, February 17.

Councillor John Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “These sessions giving people the chance to swim for just 50p are immensely popular and are part of our efforts to encourage young people to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.

“I hope that hundreds of children will take up the chance to benefit from the scheme this half-term.”

The offer follows the success of the scheme last summer which saw hundreds of children take part. A similar incentive for the over 50s continues to run, with sessions at Bilston Leisure Centre every Monday and Central Baths on Tuesdays.

For more information on the 50p deals or the activities on offer at either leisure centre, call Bilston Leisure Centre on 01902 552430 or Central Baths on 01902 552150. Alternatively log on to www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/swim.

People are asked to note that Central Baths will be closed to the general public on Sunday, February 17, as a gala is being held.

Issued by the press office.
