Darts tournament on target to be a big hit

Released: 11 September 2007

Sports fans are urged to hurry if they want tickets to see darts world champions throwing for glory right here in Wolverhampton.

The city's Civic Hall is hosting the inaugural Grand Slam of Darts in November, live on ITV - and tickets are selling fast.

The prestigious event will see 32 superstars of the sport go head to head - including current Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Champion Raymond van Barneveld, 13-time World Champion Phil 'The Power' Taylor and 2007 International Darts League winner Gary Anderson.

Other big names lined up to take part in the groundbreaking tournament, which runs from Saturday, November 17 to Sunday, November 25, include John Part, Colin Lloyd, Michael van Gerwen and Jelle Klaasen.

The nine-day event will be broadcast live on ITV1 and ITV4 from the flagship Wolverhampton City Council facility, the first time in a number of years that the commercial channel has shown darts.

Civic Halls' Jonn Penney said: "Tickets are selling fast - the semi-final and final have sold out but we still have tickets available for the early rounds when all the big names will be in action."

PDC chairman Barry Hearn added: “This event promises to be one of the most eagerly-awaited in history.  Interest has been huge in seeing the world’s best players in action at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.”

Tickets, priced from £10 to £25, are available for the first and second rounds and the quarter finals from the box office on 0870 320 7000.
