50:50 swimming scheme makes a splash

Released: 6 September 2007

Wolverhampton’s over 50s are being encouraged to make a splash - by taking advantage of discounted swimming sessions.

The city council is launching 50:50 swimming sessions from Monday 10 September, giving people aged 50 or over the chance to swim at Central Baths or Bilston Leisure Centre for just 50p.

Sessions will be held at Bilston every Monday from 11.30am to 1.30pm and at Central Baths on Tuesdays from 10am to noon.

Promotions manager for Sport and Recreation Julia Fletcher said: "The sessions are already part of the normal timetable as the 50-plus age group is an identified target group for the service. We are aiming to encourage even more older people to become more active, more frequently.

"We are delighted to be able to offer swimmers aged 50 or over this great deal and we hope to welcome lots of new swimmers along to the sessions, which take place every week."

The scheme has been launched following a successful summer campaign allowing school children to swim for just 50p.
