Learners open box of tricks
Released: 31 October 2007
A box packed with intriguing artefacts has arrived at Wolverhampton Adult Education Service to help raise the profile of arts and crafts among its adult learners.
The ‘Craftbox’ is packed full of work by 17 local artists and craftsmen which gives people the chance to handle and study the objects closely. The aim is for them to engage with crafts of various disciplines - and to then have a go at making something themselves.
The Craftbox was created by Bilston Craft Gallery and Shropshire County Council’s Arts Service, and tours contemporary craft and non-gallery settings around the West Midlands.
The box itself was put together by Wolverhampton-based furniture makers Pottinger & Cole, and it will be at Wolverhampton City Council’s Adult Education Service headquarters on Old Hall Street until Friday 9 November.
Sian Fletcher, Curriculum Manager, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for all our adult learners to see and engage with some beautiful Midlands art work.”
