Local History Symposium
Released: 26 October 2007
Historians are being encouraged to sign up to an event which aims to unlock secrets from Wolverhampton’s past.
Amateur historians with a common interest in the city will come together at the second Local History Symposium in February next year (2008), sharing their research with colleagues and the public.
And there is a £100 bursary up for grabs for one lucky historian to help with their research.
The event follows the successful pilot event last year – and Wolverhampton City Council’s Archives Service, which is organising the event with the University of Wolverhampton, are keen to hear from local historians who wish to take part.
City Archivist David Bishop said: “A lot of interesting research is being carried out in the city, and we wanted a way of sharing this information and making it available to the general public.”
The Symposium takes place at Bantock House, Wolverhampton, on Saturday, 23 February, and organisers want submissions from people keen to share their research on a Wolverhampton related-topic.
Anyone chosen to speak will have up to 20 minutes to present their research and answer questions from the audience.
A £100 bursary, offered to encourage new and significant research into the history of Wolverhampton, will be awarded to one speaker.
The closing date for applicants is mid December. To get involved call David Bishop on 01902 552485.
