Places available on baby first aid course
Released: 24 October 2007
Sessions which could save a baby’s life are being held at a Wolverhampton leisure centre.
The free basic first aid courses are aimed at anyone who cares for a baby and will give them skills which can be used in emergency situations.
They cover what to do in the vital minutes before the emergency services arrive when a baby up to 12 months old starts choking or stops breathing.
A series of two-hour sessions, organised by the council’s sport and recreation department, will take place over the next couple of months at Bilston Leisure Centre, Prouds Lane, Bilston.
They will be held on Tuesday 20 November from 7pm to 9pm, Tuesday 4 December from 7pm to 9pm, Monday 17 December from 9.30am to 11.30am and Tuesday 18 December from 7pm to 9pm.
Julia Fletcher, promotions manager for sport and recreation, said: “We initially ran these courses during June and we had such positive feedback that we have arranged more dates.
”The sessions are aimed at mums and dads, parents to be and in fact anyone who comes into contact with young children on a regular basis. They will be taught skills that could prove a lifesaver in an emergency situation – though we hope they will never have to use them.”
Places, which are free, should be booked in advance. For more information or to book a place, contact the sport and recreation training and development team on 01902 556217.
